  • August Saws and Slaws Event – Divide View

    Coal Creek

    Saturday, August 24th, 8am to Noon, with a Potluck to follow. Please join us as we conquer some much needed fire mitigation and safe egress maintenance in the DVD neighborhood. We will be cutting trees and staging slash piles for hauling to Ned Sort Yard, as well as distributing logs. We will meet at 478 Divide View. Please bring water, gloves, eye and ear protection (we have extras), a camp chair, potluck dish and a helmet if you have one. We will have our Safety Meeting promptly at 8 am.     Learn how to effectively and safely use a chainsaw for forest health and property maintenance. This quality, hands-on training will give you the skills you need to effectively and safely use a chainsaw for forest health and property maintenance. Training will be presented in three parts: - Chainsaw Maintenance – cutting safely requires a well-running saw. - Chainsaw Safety & Personal Protective Equipment - including things to watch out for while cutting. - Tree Felling & Cutting Skills – classroom review followed by field exercises. Presented by: Eric Philips, Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, Rocky Mountain Resource Protection and Eric Folwell, Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, Rocky Mountain Resource Protection NWCG ENGB. The two-day class will run on Saturday, May 15 from 9 am to 4 pm, and on Sunday, May 16 from 10 am to 4 pm. Participants, please bring: - your lunch and plenty of water- your own gear, chain saw, helmet, gloves, ear and eye protection, chaps. Wear long sleeves, pants, and boots. Space is limited. The cost of the class is $250, but we are offering a limited number of subsidies for Coal Creek Canyon residents and people who commit to volunteering at Saws and Slaws events. These fees help us cover the costs of the instructors and our insurance for the class, so your support is greatly appreciated! You can also work off the entire classroom fee with labor in our regular Saws & Slaws events! Ask Jody for more details.

    Hey Folks! Unfortunately, we are going to have to reschedule our June mitigation event to a later date. However, we will still be running a "Buck 'n' Truck” event in place of our event! We will meet at the intersection of Divide View Drive, Katie Lane, and Hess Road. We need trucks/trailers, loaders, and sawyers. The weather isn't looking too bad/warm, so come on out and join us!
