The Nederland area Community Forestry Sort Yard located at 291 Ridge Road just north of Nederland is now open to area residents. It is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays, through Oct. 20. The sort yard is a free location to dispose of slash and logs. As a reminder the sort yard does not accept logs which are currently infested with mountain pine beetles until after Sept. 15 (after beetle flight has ended for the year). Also, the sort yard does not accept raked up pine needles. Pine needles that you have cleaned up for fire mitigation needs can be hauled to the Western Disposal site…

We are pleased to announce a limited reopening of the Allenspark Community Forestry Sort Yard. Due to popular demand, the site will operate for four consecutive Fridays and Saturdays in September. The Allenspark/Meeker Park area sort yard, located on the Peak-to-Peak Highway just north of the Boulder-Larimer county line, will be open on 9/7-9/8, 9/14-9/15, 9/21-9/22, & 9/28-29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Saws and Slaws is now partnering with the wonderful people at Canyon Cares to provide free firewood to those in need! Come out and enjoy the family friendly event.  There will be live music, food and much more.  Best of all, the money they raise will be going towards helping those who need a hand in both Nederland and Coal Creek Canyon.

We need your Help – Volunteer as a Community Forestry Sort Yard Host! Volunteer Community Forestry Sort Yard Hosts are needed at the Allenspark Community Forestry Sort Yard to make sure that the yards continue to be a local hub of community-based forestry information. Hosts will greet people as they enter the yard, collect data on the material they are delivering, provide outreach to sort yard users about forest ecology, bark beetles, and wildfire mitigation. Volunteers willnot be responsible for helping unload logs and slash.  The sort yard is looking for individuals who can commit to 2-4 hour shifts, a minimum of 8 hours for the month, with the greatest need…

Mark your calendars and join the Coal Creek Community as they collectively show their appreciation to the Coal Creek Canyon volunteer fire fighters for their efforts and dedication this past summer. Chief Joe Ceurvorst will also be giving a wildfire mitigation awareness lesson and demoing how the fire department goes about structure protection during a major wildfire event. Come join us as we help our neighbors on Hilltop Rd create a heather forest and defensible space along a shared corridor between their homes. We will be cleaning out an established aspen stand so that more and healthier aspens will be encouraged to grow. Our goal is to take out dead and beetle infested trees for fire wood while the bigger trees will be milled and used for Dave Pence’s future cabin. As always there will be a great pot-luck meal to follow. You will also need to bring eye and ear protection, work gloves, long sleeve shirts, work boots, water, snacks and a helmet if you have one.…
