• Nederland – Big Springs Neighborhood Community Meeting

    Saws and Slaws is a volunteer-based group helping neighborhoods implement fire mitigation. We bring neighbors and volunteers together for a morning of work doing fire mitigation (Saws) and then have a potluck in the afternoon (Slaws). It’s a great way to work with your neighbors to reduce the danger of wildland fire at your home and in your community. We are planning four events this summer in the Big Springs Neighborhood – roughly one per month. We have support from the Town of Nederland and Boulder County to provide free chipping for these events.     The Town of Nederland will have it’s Annual Spring Cleanup on Saturday June 1st (from 8am until the dumpsters are full) at the Teen Center .     Colorado State University Extension, Gilpin County, will be having a free chainsaw class.     What: Outside Wildfire Mitigation Workshop and info about a Community Chipping Event Who should attend? The program is open to everyone. However, residents living in the Magnolia Road area are especially encouraged to attend.   • Nederland – St Anton’s Emergency Egress Thinning Event

    Hello All Please join us for the next Nederland Saws and Slaws Event to enhance emergency egress in the St. Antons neighborhood (east end of Ridge Road). We will do mitigation work from 8am-12pm and then enjoy a community potluck for lunch. We need volunteers to move slash, bring down, limb, and buck trees, and help put together the potluck.   • Nederland – Chainsaw and Maintenance Class

    In preparation for the upcoming season, Saws and Slaws is offering a chainsaw safety and maintenance class in Nederland on May 25th. This is a great idea for anyone who operates a saw at home or plans to participate in a S&S event this year. There will be a classroom component followed by time in the field where instructors Eric Folwell and Eric Philips will go over basic felling techniques and how to safely work in groups.
